| When you start thinking about your own house construction you understand that it will be much more than just a building where you spend your days and nights. You have your heart and soul in everything connected to house construction, from project and building materials to the object you buy for your new accommodation in order to make it a real home. Your house is a place where you belong and where you feel comfortable. Everybody remembers the famous proverb that a house is a fortress. That is why home building is an essential moment in any person's life.
The level of effectiveness you have your house constructed depends to a considerable extent on the proficiency of the construction firm you pick. In this way, you have to take the choice of a building firm very seriously. Prior to beginning with the project it is strongly recommended to make a little research. Sometimes you can apply to your friends and relatives that have already had an experience of construction their houses. The World Wide Web is also always at your disposal. Turn to any search site and read clients' opinions about the service of a certain building company. Choose the building companies you consider to be suitable and don't forget to visit them and ask some essential questions before you take your final decision.
Firstly, while visiting the company's office you'll get a general notion of their status. What's more, the office of the building firm is in a way their business card. Because it's difficult to conceive a person that would like to deal with a construction firm having their office planned with no experience and inaccurately constructed. You may also have a look at the catalogue with their projects and work in the branch of house construction. It'll give you general notion about the proficiency of this firm.
What is also significant, you have to find out correct info about the experience of the construction firm in the sphere of house building. You should take into account that firms with years of experience in house building set usually higher prices than others. Meanwhile, there are cases when paying additional sum of money for the quality deserves the money spent. And house building is exactly this situation. In such a way, in case you do not want to spend too much money, you should try to find the golden mean. There are some construction firms that provide qualitative service at a moderate price.
After you settle on a certain building company you should still ask them for some references. If you talk to their previous clients you'll be absolutely sure that you have selected the construction firm you need. Have a good luck on your way to the house of your dream. |

| Why Does The Double Glazing Industry Need An Ombudsman
|
The double glazing and conservatory industry has little regulation.
Whilst standards of product are getting better problems still occur with miss selling methods, badly installed products, unfulfilled remedial work and lengthy guarantees which are not honoured due to traders going out of business or having an unwillingness to make good on their promises. The general public still have a deep-rooted and long standing distrust of the industry.
Many installers believe that the quality of membership of most Trade Associations and Installer Schemes doesn't lend itself to the grouping of highly professional businesses who are customer focused. The lack of consumer protection is considered appalling by many who experience problems. Most trade associations installer schemes do not have any teeth when called upon to intervene with complaints between installers and customers. If the installer has been unprofessional or carried out unsatisfactory work and refuses to co-operate with the customer or trade association there is little any one can do until now.
The only legitimate options left for consumers were: a, The Citizen’s Advice Bureau, b, Trading Standards or c,a trip to the local solicitor or county high court. The former two can advise but often fail to persuade an intransigent installer to give the consumer satisfaction and the latter can be daunting and very often costly to the complainant.
The Ombudsman Scheme has an extensive Accreditation Procedure. This helps members achieve a higher standard of service, administration and consumer satisfaction. The Ombudsman Scheme has extensive legal powers to investigate complaints made against members. Any decisions made are legally binding and enforceable under the terms of The Arbitration Act 1996. Members have signed a legally binding contract at the point of entry into the scheme allowing the Ombudsman to investigate and thereby agreeing to abide by any decisions made.
The complaints processconsisting of conciliation, mediation, independent inspections and ultimately, if necessary, arbitration is a totally free service to the consumer/complainant. This provides a level of protection hitherto unavailable in this industry to consumers. In short, the scheme is long awaited, very well received by installers, the industry, consumer groups, the press and general public. The Ombudsman Scheme is a powerful way to help bring renewed consumer confidence and enhance the image of the industry and also in giving double glazing advice. Members promote professionalism, competency and customer care, combined with a robust form of legal redress for justified complaints.
An Ombudsman is someone to whom you can address a complaint about an organisation or body if you feel you have been dealt with unfairly or have suffered some financial or other loss you would like investigating.
There are a number of Ombudsman Schemes in the United Kingdom. Some Ombudsmen are Government appointed, for example, The Local Government Ombudsman and The Financial Services Ombudsman, whereas others are industry appointed, such as the Telecommunications Ombudsman and the Surveyor Ombudsman. The Double Glazing Ombudsman is a similar non-statutory scheme.

| Interior Design for the Home
|
The interior of a home can often say as much about a person as the clothes they wear.
The passion for interior design is growing. Many households are taking more care about the pieces of furniture they buy, the look they want to achieve and maybe experimenting with colours, textures and design styles.
There may be many factures that have resulted in us spending more money and time on our home interiors. Firstly, the vast number of home decorating, makeover and interior design television programmes. Not everyone has an eye for design or just naturally a passion for interior design. The home makeover shows have given inspiration to the masses.
The internet is another huge factor. Before being able to buy online, we could only gain inspiration and buy furnishings and accessories from local home stores or by stumbling across a mail order catalogue. The choice, basically, was very limited unless you lived in a large city.
Now with online interiors and furnishings stores, blogs and online magazines, not only can imagine and visualise the exact look we want, we can buy that look and have it delivered.
The ultra modern look is very much of the moment, frankly stark in places, mainly white and very clinical. Although this look quite often suits apartment living, it isn’t for everyone and does not always suit a period apartment or house. We are very much over the chintz look so what do we go for when we want to keep colours muted but want texture, individuality and creativeness? One style that ticks all those boxes is the shabby chic look.
Shabby chic talks its influence from the New England style along with French. It is more often associated with the French style but increasingly amongst interior designers, they are seeing the ties with the very popular New England style as well. The shabby chic style is very creative, individual and romantic. Many furniture designers now are taking the basic elements of a shabby chic home and combining it with a touch of glamour to create a modern, comfortable style. Bland shabby chic is not, it is very much a statement in terms of interior design. It is a statement in quite a different way to many styles of furniture in that it is the shape and form of the pieces that give the statement as the colours and shades are mostly muted like greys, washed out blues, pale pinks and faded greens. It is due to this that it has become such a popular style. The statement without the brash colours often found with strong design styles. It is the stylish marriage of things based on vintage designs and more modern pieces.
Even though by its nature and of course name, shabby chic doesn’t have smooth, perfect finishes. At the same time, the finishes, paints and varnishes on shabby chic furniture are meant to be like that and have been created in that way purposefully. Mass manufactured it is not and more importantly, not worn, chipped or broken through use as it is then that shabby chic loses its chic.
One very good description of shabby chic colours is “chalky”. These chalky greys and taupe’s mixed with lots and lots of white. Shabby chic furniture is always matt, always painted and combined with muted, linen covers is put together with accent pieces in silver. A touch of glamour and sparkle can then be added with crystal accessories such as chandeliers and decanters along with black and white family photos in silver frames and fresh cut flowers in an assortment of beautiful vases for example. |

| GETTING ENERGY READY FOR WINTER
|
- Keep the heat in. A third of cost of heating
your home is lost through the walls, so insulating them is the best
way to save energy in the home. Installing cavity wall insulation
can save you up to £160 per year on your heating bills.
- Look up. Laying your loft with 10 inches/25 centimetres of insulation can save you a quarter of your home’s heating costs.
- See the light.
Replacing just one old light bulb with an energy saving
recommended one can reduce lighting costs by up to £78 over the
lifetime of the bulb. Plus they last up to 12 times longer than the
ordinary light bulbs.
- Say goodbye to the old boiler.
If yours is over 15 years old consider switching to a new energy
efficient one. High efficiency condensing boilers can save up to a
third of your annual heating bills, and there are grants available
to help cover the cost.
- Get on down.
Turning your thermostat down by 1˚C could cut your heating bills by
up to 10 per cent and save you around £100 a year.
- Don’t get in hot water. Is your water too hot? Your cylinder thermostat shouldn’t need to be set any higher than 60ºC/140ºF.
- Turn it off.
Don’t leave appliances on standby and remember not to leave
appliances on charge unnecessarily. It all adds up and wastes
money.
- Wash wisely. Remember to use the
half-load or economy programmes if you’re not filling up the washing
machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher.
- Care for your kettle. Only boil as much water as you need — but remember to cover the elements if you’re using an electric kettle.
- Mend the drips.
A dripping hot water tap can waste enough hot water to fill half a
bath in just one week, so fix leaking taps and make sure they’re
all fully turned off.
A good way to save money and reduce your energy bills is to take steps to make your home more energy efficient. Not only will it cut costs but it will help the environment too. Little
things such as turning your thermostat down or switching to the new
energy saving light bulbs can help, while insulation and replacement
boilers will save you a small fortune — and you may qualify for a grant
or discounts to help with the cost. Herts property services.com. For all your property needs..

| Apartments for Sale in Rio de Janeiro – Where to Invest?
|
| Apartments for Sale in Rio de Janeiro – Where to Invest?
With hosting two of the largest sporting events of this decade – the World Cup 2014 and the Olympics 2016 – real estate and land investors’ interest in apartments for sale in Rio de Janeiro as well as other opportunities has continued to grow. But where are the lucrative property deals to be found in Brazil’s second largest metropolitan area?
The main areas of interest for finding apartments for sale in Rio de Janeiro are as follows:
‘Zona Sul’ (South Zone) – the richest region of the city and home to some of the most expensive real estate and land in South America. The area is composed of several prominent districts including São Conrado, Leblon, Ipanema, Arpoador, Copacabana, Leme, Glória, Catete, Flamengo, Botafogo and Urca – all of which border the Guanabara Bay – as well as Santa Teresa, Cosme Velho, Laranjeiras, Humaitá, Lagoa, Jardim Botânico and Gávea.
‘Centro’ (Central) – downtown Rio serves as the city’s financial district and historic centre with an increasing amount of residential apartment opportunities, particularly in the Portuária regeneration area (Gamboa, Saúde and Santo Cristo).
‘Zona Ouest’ (West Zone) - areas of real estate and land interest include Jacarepaguá, Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Vargem Grande, Deodoro, Vargem Pequena, Realengo, Padre Miguel, Bangu, Campo Grande, Jardim Sulacap, Paciência and Santa Cruz. One area that has witnessed significant expansion in recent years (in terms of both residential and commercial development) is the flat expanse of Barra da Tijuca – the area’s central point is Latin America’s largest mall ‘New York, New York’ which aptly summarises the very American feel of the region. This area will be home to the ‘Olympic Village’ with its beaches being used for many of the sporting activities.
‘Zona Norte’ (North Zone) – the main areas are Tijuca (which shares the Tijuca Rainforest with the South Zone), Grajaú, Vila Isabel, Méier, São Cristovão, Madureira and Penha. The Maracanã stadium is also located in this area and has the capacity to hold 100,000 people (and is currently being refurbished in time for the World Cup 2014 upon which its capacity will reach 120,000) – as a result of its ever burgeoning presence, a large amount of infrastructure investment has been earmarked in the surrounding area. Other points of interest are the Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport, the Quinta da Boa Vista (a large park where the historic imperial palace is located) as well as the Federal and State universities of Rio de Janeiro.
There has additionally been an increasing amount of real estate investment interest in the wider Rio de Janeiro state, particularly in the coastal regions which continue to offer lower prices complemented by strong investment yields. Some notable examples include Cabo Frio (with its turquoise waters and white beaches, an increasingly popular national and international tourism destination); Búzios (a small town commonly referred to as the ‘French Riviera’ of Brazil); Macaé (an increasingly important economic city of Brazil due to being located by the main access point to the country’s huge petroleum discoveries) and Rio das Ostras (another area witnessing development due to its proximity to Macaé complemented by a high standard of living).
Please click here for more information on searching for apartments for sale in Rio de Janeiro as well as to subscribe for free access to detailed reports, investment opportunities, state guides, up-to-date statistics, strategies, interviews, articles, weekly broadcasts and more on all aspects of Brazil property and land.
